Activités de Recherche

 The objective is to analyse, understand and model the effects of cropping systems (and their location in landscapes) on weeds. The ultimate goal is the multi-criteria evaluation and multi-objective design of cropping systems for integrated weed management (ex. using little or no herbicides, controlling harmful species, preserving biodiversity, minimising environmental impacts, ensuring harvest quantity and quality...).
 I. Examples of experimental studies:
 - Measuring parameters of morphological plasticity and of plant response to competition for light of weed and crop species (notably cover crops); identification of functional relationships between parameters and species traits
 - Measuring seed viability and germinability of weed species (including parasites) as function of seed age, season, soil structure
 - Analysis and quantification of weed seed burial and dispersal by agricultural tools and natural vectors
 II. The models available to dat:
 - GENESYS-ORS (Oilseed rape volunteer dynamics and gene flow in landscape, application to coexistence between oilseed varieties and to managing harvest purity),
 - GENESYS-Beet (weed beet dynamics and gene flow in landscape; application to weed beet management, particularly of herbicide-resistant populations),
 - ALOMYSYS (dynamics and genetics of blackgrass at field scale; application to managing an autumnal grass weed resistant to many herbicides),
 - FLORSYS (dynamics of a multispecific weed flora at field scale; application to managing weed harmfulness and contribution to biodiversity).
 III. Exemples d'utilisation des modèles
 - Assessing the feasibility of coexising GM and non-GM crops in different European regions, crops and production systems; identification of possible technical solutions. Expertise carried out for the European Commission via the Joint Research Centre.
 - Identification of cropping systems with little or no herbicide use for managing autumnal grass weeds
 - Effect of changes in cultural practices on weed flora and associated biodiversity
 - Identifying combinations of cultural practices for reaching combinations of management goals in terms of weed harmfulness control, contribution to biodiversity and reduction of herbicide use
