Research activities

I am molecular physiologist, mainly working in nutrient exchanges at the biotrophic interface (e.g. sugar, nitrogen, phosphorus) between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. I am mainly working with grapevine, poplar, sorghum, wheat, pea and petunia as model plants and using Rhizophagus irregularis as AM fungal model. Functional characterization of plant and fungal transporters is one of my skills. Interestingly, AM fungi can link neighboring plants, forming common mycorrhizal networks (CMN). So, we are interested in deciphering terms of trade in such CMNs between plants and their shared fungal partners: we study fluxes of nutrients and the regulation of fungal and plant transcript-/prote-ome in different plant-plant interactions through an AM fungus. Finally, in the field, we are also working at the holobiont scale, for integrating the plant and associated microbes, both for functional and taxonomical studies. In this context, we studied the effect of agricultural practices (.e. agroforestry, conventional, organic) on AM fungi.
